burgas international folklore festival 2017

The Burgas International Folklore Festival 2017 takes place 21-25 August in Burgas. The Burgas IFF is the oldest folklore festival in Bulgaria, and a popular gathering of performing artists from around the world. This year the festival welcomes participants from 13 countries under the motto “To preserve the legacy of our ancestors and pass it down to our children.”

The programme includes a full schedule of concerts on the stage of the Sea Garden Summer Theatre, with additional performances at open air venues throughout the city including Meden Rudnik, Izgrev Park, Slaveykov Park, Flora Expo Center, Atanas Sirekov Square and the Ohlyov Theater. Gallery exhibits and a bazaar of traditional souvenirs round out the official activities.

Performances are free of charge, so if you’re in Burgas during the festival come out to enjoy the show!

Nestinarka Prize for Folk Songs and Dance Works

One of the highlights of the festival each year is the awarding of the Nestinarka Prize for exceptional merit in the development, preservation and dissemination of Bulgarian folklore. This year the prize goes to the Ivan Velev Ensemble from Pleven.
